エバコアは、米通信大手ＡＴ＆Ｔによる米地域通信大手ベルサウス買収を手がけるなど企業の買収・合併（Ｍ＆Ａ）に強みを持つ。みずほコーポレート銀行はエバコアとの資本提携によって日米間のＭ＆Ａ業務などを強化したい考えだ。 みずほコーポレート銀行は今年１月に米証券大手メリルリンチに約１３００億円を出資するなど海外戦略を強化。三菱東京ＵＦＪ銀行と三井住友銀行も欧米の金融機関との連携を強めており、邦銀の海外攻勢が加速している。 今年に入って、米地域金融機関の経営破たんが相次いでいる。８月２２日にカンザス州の地方銀行、コロンビア・バンク・アンド・トラストが州当局から業務停止命令を受け、今年９件目の破たんとなった。昨年は計３件で、今年はすでに３倍に膨らんだ。 家庭で現金を眠らせる「タンス預金」が２００７年は３０兆円規模に上り、０３年以降の高止まり傾向が続いていることが日本銀行の調査で分かった。低金利が続いていることや米低所得者向け住宅融資「サブプライムローン」問題による金融市場の混乱で、膨大なお金が行き場を失っているとみられる。
